Cody Johnson & Carrie Underwood’s Surprise Duet Sends Nashville Crowd Into a Frenzy

Fans at Cody Johnson’s sold-out Nashville concert were in for a massive surprise when Carrie Underwood took the stage for a jaw-dropping duet with him—making it their first-ever live performance together. The crowd’s reaction was nothing short of electric, as they erupted into cheers and disbelief, witnessing a moment they never saw coming. With powerful harmonies and undeniable chemistry, the duo left the audience buzzing long after the final note.

Cody Johnson took the stage at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena Friday and Saturday night during a sold-out stop of his Leather tour. During night two, Ian Munsick and Luke Combs surprised the crowd by joining Johnson on stage. But the night’s biggest surprise came when new American Idol judge Carrie Underwood appeared.

Underwood took the stage with CoJo to sing their current radio single, “I’m Gonna Love You.” Cody sang the opening verse before Carrie joined him on stage. Attendees shared on social media that they were anticipating a Carrie appearance since the show was in her hometown. But the crowd’s reaction when they caught a glimpse of her emerging from backstage indicated that they were, in fact, surprised.

The crowd roared when Carrie stepped out. She looked stunning in an animal print skirt, black knee-high boots, and a CoJo t-shirt. She sounded better than ever as she and Johnson sang together, but despite their incredible vocals, fans had a bone to pick with CoJo.

As footage of their performance made its way to social media, fans noticed that Cody committed a cowboy faux pas. As he and Carrie made their way down a small flight of stairs to the front of the stage, CoJo didn’t offer his hand to help Carrie down.

Regardless, fans praised their performance. “I was literally on the floor,” one attendee wrote. Another replied, “Same. I couldn’t contain my screams.”

Saturday’s performance wasn’t the first time Carrie made a surprise appearance with CoJo.

During November’s CMA Awards show, also held at Bridgestone Arena, CoJo was one of the scheduled performers but kept his song selection a secret. When he took the stage during the live show, he began to sing “I’m Gonna Love You.” Carrie, who wasn’t on the performers list, made a surprise appearance to join him on the song.
