The reporters on MSNBC’s Morning Joe had a laugh about Tesla’s stock prices as they dropped Monday.
Elon Musk has been so focused on slashing government agencies with the Department of Government Efficiency, he seems to have left Tesla behind. While the company’s share prices soared last December, at $479 per share, they have now dropped
The CEO himself has taken a big hit as well, as his personal net worth dropped $22.8 billion from $325 billion to $302 billion, according to the Forbes. This is part of a wider market downturn caused by Donald Trump’s tariffs on goods from Canada and Mexico, causing recession fears.
The drop in Musk’s personal finances was a topic of conversation on Morning Joe. The analysts expressed glee about the hit, making jokes about the billionaire’s expense.

Edward Luce said on the panel that Musk’s “political standing in this town is falling almost as fast as Tesla’s share price… he is an albatross around Trump’s neck.”
Co-host Mika Brzezinski added: “Not that fast! Have you seen Tesla?!”

The panel was especially cynical after Musk’s recent claims in an interview with Larry Kudlow with Fox Business. He talked about “entitlement programs,” referring to social security and Medicaid.
He claims there are “20 million people” who are dead receiving social security checks. He added that there were 4.7 million people over 100 years old that are still listed in the Social Security Administration’s database receiving money.
According to CNN, public data from the Social Security Administration shows that about 89,000 people age 99 or over were receiving Social Security benefits in December 2024.
Luce added that messing with social security is “political dynamite,” noting that surely Trump knows that.
