đź‘€ Massive Chiefs Comeback? The RETURN They Need is Within Reach – Fans Watch Out

The Kansas City Chiefs are making headlines again as they prepare to face the Los Angeles Chargers, with key injury updates and a familiar face returning to the roster. Charles Omenihu, who has been sidelined since tearing his ACL during last season’s AFC Championship game, is teasing his return, much to the excitement of Chiefs fans. But that’s not the only news—former tight end Jody Fortson is back, and there are some updates on the injury front.

Welcome back to “All Chiefed Up,” where we break down the latest Chiefs news. Before we dive in, hit the like and subscribe buttons to stay updated!

Charles Omenihu Nearing a Comeback

The Chiefs are eagerly anticipating Charles Omenihu’s return in 2024, and exciting news suggests his comeback might be just around the corner. Omenihu has been on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list since his ACL injury. Throughout his recovery, Omenihu has kept fans updated on his progress via social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and YouTube. His journey has been a long and challenging one, but the defensive star has remained optimistic.

Just days ago, Omenihu posted on X:
“I’m learning patience. I’m learning divine timing. I’m learning how to rebuild mentally and physically. Soon, I’ll be able to show what that looks like when the time is right.”

Chiefs’ defensive star Chris Jones praised Omenihu’s work ethic, commenting on the commitment and effort he’s put into his recovery. Jones shared,
“He’s been all in, staying late and working out for 3 to 4 hours a day. His dedication is unmatched.”

Jones also spoke highly of what Omenihu will bring to the Chiefs’ defense upon his return, emphasizing Omenihu’s versatility on the defensive line. Omenihu, who missed part of last season, still managed to rack up seven to eight sacks. With his return, the Chiefs are hopeful that Omenihu will bolster a defense that is already impressive.

When Will Omenihu Return?

Omenihu has been releasing a YouTube series titled “The Journey,” which documents his recovery. Fans are eagerly awaiting the sixth episode, in which Omenihu is expected to reveal his plans for returning to the field. While early updates indicated a potential return around Week 13, there are signs he could be back even sooner. The Chiefs can open his practice window on Monday, September 30th, as Omenihu completes his four-week stint on the PUP list.

If Omenihu’s recovery continues on this accelerated pace, we could see him back in action around Week 8 when the Chiefs face off against the Las Vegas Raiders. His return would add much-needed depth and versatility to a defensive line that has been battling its own challenges this season.

Jody Fortson Returns to the Chiefs

In addition to Omenihu’s potential return, the Chiefs have also brought back a familiar face to their offense. Tight end Jody Fortson, who had a brief stint with the Miami Dolphins during the offseason, has rejoined the Chiefs on the practice squad. Fortson is no stranger to Kansas City fans, having first signed with the team as an undrafted free agent wide receiver in 2019. He later transitioned to tight end and became a fan favorite.

Standing at 6’4” and weighing 226 pounds, Fortson’s return adds depth to the tight end position. Though injuries have limited his playing time, he has recorded 14 receptions for 199 yards and four touchdowns in 21 games with the Chiefs.

Fortson will wear jersey number 89 this time around, as his previous number 88 is now taken by practice squad tight end Peyton Hendershot.

Injury Report Updates Ahead of Week 4

As the Chiefs prepare for their Week 4 matchup against the Chargers, their injury report has expanded to include six players. Defensive player Mike Danna was seen on the sidelines without a helmet during Thursday’s practice. He has been battling a quad injury, and there are concerns about his availability for the Chargers game. If Danna is unable to play, this could open the door for first-round draft pick Felix Anudike-Uzomah to step up, along with newly acquired defensive end Cameron Thomas.

On a positive note, safety Chamarri Conner was a full participant in practice despite a minor heel injury, suggesting he is on track to play.

Chiefs’ Defensive Line Under Pressure

The Chiefs’ defense has been effective in applying pressure, but fans are still waiting for more sacks. Chris Jones and George Karlaftis have put up respectable numbers, but the team is not yet living up to its “Sack Nation” reputation. For now, they’ve been dubbed “Pressure Nation” as the defense continues to create disruptions without always converting those into sacks.

What’s Next for the Chiefs?

With Omenihu’s return potentially just weeks away and Fortson back in the fold, the Chiefs are working hard to stay ahead of their competition. As injuries continue to affect the team, they’ll need every available player to step up.
