Fans Lash Out at Dylan Dreyer After She Publicly Supports Controversial Figure—Did She Go Too Far?

Dylan Dreyer is feeling the wrath of some fans following her latest Instagram post.

Over the weekend, the Today meteorologist shared a carousel of images to the picture-sharing platform that documented a recent outing she enjoyed with one of the show’s producers, Matt Greenfield, post-Kentucky Derby coverage.

Dreyer’s upload showed her and Greenfield at popular steakhouse Jeff Ruby’s Louisville, Kentucky, location. The first three images in the post featured a small metallic gold cake designed to look like a replica of Nike’s Air Force One sneaker, while the fourth was a video of the media personality cutting into it with her fork and taste-testing it, confirming it was, in fact, cake.

But it was the last photo she shared that upset some fans. The selfie captured Dreyer and Greenfield smiling big at the camera, with the back of a stranger’s head framed perfectly between the NBC personality and producer.

Though the person was seated at another table, the 42-year-old weather presenter later confirmed who it was in the caption: Kid Rock.

“Is it CAKE??? Is it Kid Rock??? Yes. What an amazing night at @jeffrubyslouisville,” Dreyer wrote in the accompanying statement.

Needless to say, not everyone was pleased with her, and several made it clear that they disapproved of her fan-girling over the controversial celebrity.

“You know about cake DD 🙌… but pls no Kid Rock refs,” one perturbed Instagram user wrote.

“Kid Rock 👎🏼,” another shared.

“Wow I’m so disappointed!” a third said in part, adding, “You looked beautiful anyway.”

“Kid? Uggg no!!!! Don’t even [say] that name,” someone else wrote.

“I am not going to jump to conclusions. But if true, I, too, am very disappointed,” another added, hinting that they hope Dreyer isn’t a loyal supporter, but was simply starstruck by seeing the singer out and about.

But not everyone had their feathers ruffled, as some of Dreyer’s followers chose to highlight the positive side of her post.

“Jeff Ruby’s is the best, Cincinnati proud!” one gushed. “Glad you were able to enjoy, Dylan!”

“Dilly, Dilly, you were perfect yesterday! Another proud Kentuckian, and you deserved every bite of that incredible dessert,” a second declared.

“Omg people! It is cake and dinner after the Derby. Not everything is a political statement 🙄,” a different user suggested.
