My husband and I have been married for two years, but he’s always been secretive about money. He insists on keeping our finances separate. After a lot of arguments—even threatening divorce—he agreed to give me $400 a month. Still, he never shares anything about his income, investments, or savings.

A Family Emergency

In June, my father was in a serious car accident, and the hospital estimated we’d need about $8,000 for surgery. I didn’t have enough savings, so I turned to my husband for help. His response left me speechless:

“Your dad’s your responsibility. If you need money, figure it out yourself. Don’t ask me.”

His cold words broke my heart. I cried all night but realized that I couldn’t rely on him. I borrowed $4,000 from my coworkers, who fortunately trusted me. Yesterday, I was cleaning out the freezer when I noticed a small black bag that had been sitting in the back of the freezer for two years. Curious, I decided to open it, thinking it might be old meat or fish. My husband had always told me not to touch it, saying it was “special meat.”

Inside, I found not meat, but gold rings—seven of them, neatly stacked.

He didn’t reply until the afternoon, and when he did, it was just one short sentence:

I don’t understand what’s happening anymore. Why has he been hiding money from me for two years? If he doesn’t trust me with his finances, what’s the point of being married?
