JuJu Watkins claimed the USC Trojans‘ record for more three-pointers in one game as the second-year star dominated the Cal Baptist Lancers on December 3 by posting an incredible 40 points.
That’s the sort of form Caitlin Clark showed with the Iowa Hawkeyes, but Watkins wasn’t done there as she also added six rebounds and a 66.7% field goal percentage to hand her team a 94-52 win on a silver platter.
Her record of nine three pointers didn’t just come from sheer volume either as she only made 11 three-point efforts for an accuracy rate of 81.8% to claim her seventh win of the season in the NCAA and it’s no surprise fans are hooked.
One fan wrote via X.com, formerly known as Twitter: “Generational.”
A second added: “Baby demon.”
And a third declared: “We just getting started.”
Some are already thinking beyond college basketball too as they wonder how well she will do in the WNBA, although one questioned why the guard isn’t yet getting the same kind of hype Clark got in her final year.
The development comes after Watkins eclipsed the ex-Hawkeyes’ record of fewest games to 1000 points in a women’s Power Five league. The now-Indiana Fever icon needed 40 games to hit the milestone but it took the Trojans’ star just 38.
Who do the Trojans play next?
Watkins has averaged 25.4 points-per-game, 6.2 rebounds-per-game and 3.6 assists-per-game this campaign and is yet to shoot below 20 points against any opponent she has faced as she finds herself in electric form.
That’s with the exception of the Cal Poly Mustangs, but even then she impressed with 16 points in 29 minutes showing she was on pace to easily clear the 20 margin there too if she matched her minutes.
Watkins will next be back on court when the USC Trojans take on the Oregon Ducks at the Matthew Knight Arena on Saturday, December 7.
