Lainey Wilson Battles Lightning Strike at Billy Bob’s—Delivers Show-Stopping Performance with a Megaphone! ⚡🎤
Lainey Wilson was all set to perform for a sold-out crowd at the legendary Billy Bob’s Texas when an unexpected challenge struck—literally. A lightning bolt hit part of the venue’s sound system, causing major technical issues. But instead of letting the outage stop the show, Wilson improvised like a true entertainer. Grabbing a megaphone, she powered through her set, making sure the fans got the performance they came for. It was a moment of pure grit and showmanship, proving once again why she’s one of country music’s rising superstars!
In June, Wilson’s concert at the Carolina Country Music Fest came to a near halt when a storm rolled through. Her band covered their gear with tarps and left the stage.
But instead of taking cover too, Wilson remained onstage. She delivered a cappella renditions of “Heart Like a Truck” and “wait in the truck” in the pouring rain.
Then in July, lightning struck Wilson’s gear before her performance in Charlotte, North Carolina. She improvised, and performed an acoustic set with just one band member.
“We ain’t ever gonna let it rain on this parade…Charlotte, thank y’all for singin loud and proud with us,” Wilson said after the show.
Lightning Never Strikes The Same Place Twice…Except In Lainey’s Case
On Friday (September 8), Wilson prepared to perform for a sold-out crowd at Billy Bob’s Texas. But she faced a challenge when lightning struck some of the iconic venue’s sound equipment. Needless to say, this caused some pretty serious tech issues.
Once again, Wilson found herself needing to improvise due to lightning. This time, she grabbed a megaphone and sang through it to help project her voice during the outage.
Wilson had a crew member hold the megaphone for her so she could still play guitar. One TikTok clip shows her making light of the situation, saying, “Clearly we’re having some technical difficulties.”
Lainey Wilson Switches Gears When The Megaphone Doesn’t Work The Best
Unfortunately, the megaphone wasn’t the best substitute for a microphone. So she switched gears, and stopped singing her own material.
Instead, Wilson launched into a cover of Keith Whitley‘s “When You Say Nothing At All,” and asked the crowd to sing along. She also surprised everyone mid-show by inviting Randy Travis onstage for a surprise appearance:
“It ain’t every night you get to bring out the legend @therandytravis nor sing through a megaphone but we covered both of those last night at @billybobstexas,” Wilson said on Instagram. “Thank y’all for your patience while we waited for the power to kick back on…guess ya could say lightning likes us these days.”
According to the TikTok user who uploaded a video of Wilson’s megaphone performance, the outage thankfully didn’t last long.
“This powerhouse of a woman works so hard she even tried to play via mega phone!!” the concertgoer said. “Power outage didn’t last long and @BillyBobsTexas staff had her back up and rollin! THE BEST CONCERT I HAVE EVER BEEN TOO!“
