American Idol’s Lionel Richie Described Carrie Underwood with ‘Nasty’ Comment Amid Signs She’s Failing As A Judge

Carrie Underwood took some criticism from Lionel Richie on Good Morning America Wednesday on American Idol.

The country superstar looked surprised as Richie joked about her always defending contestants.

“She’s always saying, ‘But he’s so cute,’” Richie quipped.

Underwood pushed back, saying she just likes to weigh the pros and cons before making a decision.

She and Richie appeared on the morning show alongside fellow judge Luke Bryan for a lighthearted Q&A session.

During the segment, Underwood also shared her nickname: “Jukebox Carrie.”

Richie and Bryan said they came up with the name because she seems to know every song ever written.

“It’s amazing what she has up in that little jukebox head of hers,” Richie said in a clip from an upcoming episode. “I have never met anyone like that.”

Underwood, who won American Idol in 2005, reflected on being on the other side of the competition after 20 years.

“It doesn’t feel like it, but it’s really cool,” she said. “Hopefully, we can help some people make their dreams come true.”

The show’s hosts also joked that she’s no longer “the new kid” because of her impressive career.

Underwood laughed, responding, “Don’t call me an old kid.”

Bryan recalled a funny moment from early in the season when Underwood realized she could tell contestants what to sing.

“I was like, ‘Sing Happy Birthday,’ and Carrie was like, ‘We can do that?’” he said.

Underwood also turned heads with her fashion choices.

She stepped out in New York City in two bold outfits Wednesday.

First, she wore a pink diamond-patterned suit with a white blouse and flared trousers.

Later, she changed into a green, marble-patterned leather jacket with a matching peplum miniskirt, showing off her toned legs.

She paired her first look with white platform heels and soft pink makeup, keeping her blonde waves loose. For her second look, she switched to black leather pumps and chunky gold jewelry.
