One of the hottest topics towards the end of the previous NBA season was the future of LeBron James.

For a while, there seemed to be a genuine possibility that the legend could be leaving the Los Angeles Lakers, and one of the potential destinations was the Golden State Warriors where he would have teamed up with Steph Curry.

In the end, LeBron opted to extend his deal with the Lakers, and Bronnu James being drafted onto the team was presumed to be the decisive factor for LeBron as he was desperate to be on the same team as his son before his career comes to an end.

It was LeBron’s call

NBA insider Marc Stein reported that the Lakers would have engaged in trade talks with the Warriors if LeBron had showed any interest in the move. He also said that LeBron’s agent, Rich Paul, was ‘adamantly opposed’ to the trade.

Kenyon Martin thinks that if LeBron really did want to sign for the Warriors, there would have been nothing anyone could have done to stop him.

“There’s nothing that f*cking Rich Paul could have said or done if LeBron James wake up tomorrow morning and be like, ‘you know what? F*ck this sh*t, I want to go to Golden State’. To be blatantly honest, I think it’s some bullsh*t,” he said of the possibility of Paul influencing James’ decision.

What is certain is that LeBron staying with the Lakers is huge for the franchise on and off of the court.

The Lakers and the Warriors are the two teams that will have the most games broadcast in the NBA next season, and LeBron and Curry are a big part of why.
