The Dallas Cowboys wrapped up their preseason on Saturday. Head coach Mike McCarthy chose to rest his starters, paving the way for Trey Lance to make a statement and assert himself as one of the more-talented backup quarterbacks in the league

He did the exact opposite, turning the ball over five timestaking three sacks and fumbling on two other occasions.

He accumulated an impressive 413 total yards, but it wasn’t enough to save him from severe criticism.

RGIII still thinks Trey Lance is worth salvaging

Robert Griffin III, on the other hand, actually liked some of what he saw from Lance; at least on the ground.

To be fair, Lance had only thrown two interceptions when that touchdown run happened. He then went on to throw three more, one of which was a pick-six.

Unsurprisingly, fans believe this was the end of any chance Lance had to make it in the league. But Griffin, and even other national media members, believe there is still untapped potential. He just needs live game reps.

That may be true, but it’s hard to give him a chance when he’s so careless with the ball and struggles to consistently read defenses; especially against strict backups and third-stringers in the preseason.

There’s no denying that Lance’s rushing ability is tantalizing and could be very useful in the NFL. But taking sacks and turning the ball over is something coaches refuses to look past.
