The Chicago Sky have struggled since the Olympic break, having won just one of their five games, and they are likely to be without their top scorer for their upcoming matchup.
Chennedy Carter, who averages 17.2 points per game, will miss Wednesday’s game against the Washington Mystics.
The Mystics will travel to Wintrust Arena in Chicago to face the Sky, who currently hold an 11-18 record and sit in 8th place.
Chicago Sky Players affected by illness, practice session cancelled
Concerns have emerged within the Chicago Sky camp after Tuesday’s practice session was unexpectedly canceled.
According to Sky general manager Jeff Pagliocca, several players reported feeling unwell, leading to the last-minute cancellation.
In response, players were seen wearing masks at the Sachs Recreation Center as a precautionary measure with the team having suspected that the cause of the illness was COVID-19.
COVID-19 testing underway for Angel Reese and teammates
Pagliocca confirmed to the Chicago Sun-Times that the team is testing for COVID-19 and consulting with doctors on the best course of action moving forward.
The health concerns add another layer of uncertainty for the team as they prepare for their game against the Mystics.
Coach Teresa Weatherspoon provided an update on the team’s health protocols, emphasizing the importance of wearing masks.
Annie Costabile shared on Twitter that Weatherspoon had a strong position on the incident and that precautionary measures were being taken.
“Masks are just to take care of each other and keep everybody as safe as possible,” Weatherspoon is quoted as saying.
The team is focused on maintaining safety as they navigate this challenging period, with the match against the Mystics likely to be all the more challenging as a result of the illness surrounding the camp.
