The Indiana Fever are making their way to the postseason for the first time since 2016. Two important players in this accomplishment are rookie sensation Caitlin Clark and 2018 draft veteran Kelsey Mitchell. Mitchell, who has never played in the postseason, asked one of his close friends, an NBA player familiar with the playoff system, for help.

That player was D’Angelo Russell, a standout player for the Los Angeles Lakers who has participated in four postseason games, most recently with the Lakers. Russell had a crucial role in the Lakers’ Western Conference Finals run in 2023. Mitchell talked about her post-practice meeting with the Lakers player on Wednesday.

Mitchell said, “I recently talked to my close friend D’Angelo Russell. We go way back. Me and him go back to the point where we trained together at Ohio State. We kind of know each other so, from that perspective, it was good to get a conversation in regards to how [the playoffs] looked. I also got a chance to talk to [Miles] McBride…he made a run with the Knicks, so he knew what it was like, too. We’re from the same home town. I like to get as much information as I can so it’s been exciting to hear about it.”

Russell has played in four postseason games, two of which he played with the Lakers. In those consecutive seasons, the Denver Nuggets eliminated the Lakers in the first round and Western Conference finals.

With rookie Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Mitchell has been a part of one of the WNBA’s most explosive backcourts. Clark has been breaking various records in her first-ever WNNBA season. The pair is as dangerous offensively as anybody in the league. It’ll be an excellent experience for both the talented players.

Fans Are Trolling Caitlin Clark’s Teammate For Taking D’Angelo Russell’s Advice

Like many Fever players, Kelsey Mitchell will be playing in her first playoff game. In 2018, two years after the Fever’s most recent postseason run, she was selected out of Ohio State with the second overall pick. However, fans are not holding back from firing shots at her.

Many users trolled Kelsey Mitchell for her poor choice to get some advice. At the same time, many claim that D’Angelo Rusell is himself a failure when it comes to playoffs.

Other users joked about how Kelsey Mitchell reached the wrong person among many NBA players. Some fans also posted D’Angelo Russell’s playoff performance as a troll.

Some fans also commented that it was hard to differentiate whether this news was correct or was posted by a parody account.

The Fever’s opponent has not yet been revealed as they prepare to kick off playoff action on Sunday. However, Kelsey Mitchell will be essential to Indiana’s performance and prospects of moving forward.
