Susan Boyle takes dance lessons in bid for celebrity spot on Strictly Come Dancing

SUSAN Boyle has taken dance lessons in the hope of waltzing her way on to Strictly Come Dancing — and she hasn’t ruled out a surprise appearance on The Masked Singer.

The Scot was rumoured to have been Octopus on the ITV sensation before it was revealed opera singer Katherine Jenkins was wearing the cephalopod costume.

Susan Boyle has hinted she would love to appear on Strictly Come Dancing

But Susan — whose Ten tour kicks off next month — admits she would like to add to her TV talent show appearances after shooting to worldwide fame on Britain’s Got Talent.

The 58-year-old said: “Someone suggested I would be good on Strictly Come Dancing. Yeah, I would like that. I’ve got some moves. I’ve been taking dance lessons.

“I also watched The Masked Singer. There were rumours I was also the Daisy as well — I like to keep people guessing.”

Asked outright whether she has been approached by ITV to appear in a future series of the smash-hit show, she said: “It would be a strange feeling performing inside a costume.

“But I’m not committing myself to anything else at the moment because of my tour.”

However, she knows which shows she definitely won’t be appearing on any time soon.

She added: “I don’t fancy I’m A Celebrity because I wouldn’t know what I was eating. And I’m not going on Love Island either.”

The singer from Blackburn, West Lothian, yesterday returned to the stage at Glasgow’s SEC Armadillo where it all began for her.

Her breathtaking performance of I Dreamed A Dream from the musical Les Miserables turned her into an overnight superstar.

But she admits looking back at her audition, where she left telly judges Piers Morgan, Amanda Holden and Simon Cowell as stunned as the Scots crowd, leaves her cringing — because of her clobber.

She said: “When I watch that now I think, ‘Who the heck dressed her?’

“The dress, the tights, the white shoes — holy baloney. I had got dressed in a hurry.

“That dress has remained at the back of my wardrobe. I haven’t had it back on since as it’s too big now as I’ve lost an awful lot of weight — I must have gone on stage in a tent.”

And she recalls the fateful day as if it was only yesterday when her three- bus journey led her to her destiny.

She said: “It’s deja vu coming back here. It’s a bit creepy really because I was quite frightened at the time.

“I remember what that day was like alright as it took me a long time to get there. I needed to get three buses for a start. Then when I asked for directions it would be, ‘It’s just over that road, hen.’

“So I would cross the road then someone else would tell me, ‘Nah, nah hen, you’re at the wrong bit.’ I was like ‘Where am I?’

“I was called for half past nine but knew I’d never make it for that time, so by the time I got here it was well past 10. I thought I had missed my chance. But they were good and told me to wait until the next slot

“When I performed, the reaction from the audience spoke for itself.

“I was shocked but pleased. I was very emotional.”

But SuBo — as she became known — had no idea how life- changing that August 2008 audition would be until it was eventually broadcast on April 11, 2009.

She said: “I heard banging on the door and all these kids were in the street to see me. I figured I must have done something right.”

A record-breaking 18.3million TV audience watched the 2009 final of Britain’s Got Talent when Subo was pipped to the winner’s title by dance group Diversity.

And she feared her dream of becoming a professional singer had bitten the dust until music mogul Cowell stepped in.

She said: “Simon has been a man of his word. He kept his promise, which was that I would be making an album and that I would have longevity.”

Six albums later, the Scot lists the highlights of her career as meeting the Pope, performing for the Queen and singing a duet, All I Ask Of You with her pin-up Donnie Osmond.

She said: “I would like to duet with Michael Buble. I also met Celine Dion recently and she’s a wonderful lady so I would like to do a duet with her as I got on very well with her.”

But how did this lonely spinster, the youngest of nine, suddenly deal with becoming one of the most recognisable faces on the planet?

She said: “There’s a different Susan, a persona I put on for the public, for the record company.

“But when I’m at home the door closes and I’ve not got the frock on any more, I turn the telly on and that’s me sorted.”

The money continues to roll in as well with accounts from her various firms earlier this month reporting nearly £2million in the bank.

And if she manages to pass her driving test soon she knows what she will be spending some of her fortune on.

She said: “I would love a Jaguar. A silver convertible so I could drive around with the roof down.”

But after Scotland has been battered by two storms in a week, doesn’t she fancy swapping Blackburn for Sunset Boulevard?

She said: “I like working in America but I wouldn’t stay there.
