Steve Kerr’s only success as coach of the US national team was the Olympic Gold Meda in Paris, and now with him gone there is already controversy amid the decision of a new head coach.
The Golden State Warriors coach, who was named Team USA coach in 2021, has given way to a new voice on the bench for the years to come.
Kerr, 58, took command of Team USA, thus relieving every duty from the benches such as Gregg Popovich, with whom he achieved gold in Tokyo 2020 as a member of his coaching staff.
The results have not been as expected despite the gold in Paris. In the last World Cup in 2023, the failure of the Americans was not good, since not only did they not win gold, but they were left without a medal after losing in the bronze match against their neighboring country, Canada.
Who can be the next coach in line?
As expected, changes in Team USA will come soon, and although there is nothing official yet on a replacement, since this weekend the name of who could be his successor on the bench for the coming years has already emerged in Erik Spoelstra.
The Miami Heat coach already knows what it’s like to sit on the national team bench. In fact, he was already part of Gregg Popovich’s staff between 2017 and 2021 and also on Kerr’s.
The coach of Filipino origin, who will face his sixteenth season at the helm of the Heat, is running as the name with the most guarantees to assume the position of coach of Team USA for the 2027 World Cup in Qatar and for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angels.
