Travis Kelce, the Kansas City Chiefs‘ star tight end, isn’t ready to retire just yet. At 34, he remains laser-focused on an ambitious goal: becoming part of the first NFL team to win three consecutive Super Bowls. Appearing on the Rich Eisen Show on September 3, Kelce opened up about his motivations for continuing his career despite having already secured back-to-back championships with the Chiefs.
The thrill of the challenge fuels Kelce’s passion
When asked if he considered retirement after winning two consecutive Super Bowls, Kelce didn’t hesitate:
“It didn’t cross my mind one bit. The excitement of the challenge of this year, being able to maybe do it a third time in a row, that alone was all I needed. There was really not a chance in hell that I wasn’t coming back this year.”
Kelce?s commitment is evident not just in his words but in his actions on and off the field. Despite the Chiefs losing all three of their preseason games, Kelce remains undeterred. He continues to find joy in every practice session and is deeply motivated by the opportunity to achieve something no other team in NFL history has done.
Staying energized and inspired
Kelce also shared a piece of wisdom from former NFL star Julian Edelman, who told him that he knew it was time to retire when he no longer felt excited about practicing and preparing. For Kelce, that moment hasn’t arrived. “I’m just having so much fun… so appreciative and so fortunate that I’ve been able to come into year 12 and still have this energy and this love,” he stated.
The excitement around Kelce isn’t just about his past successes; it’s about what’s still possible. On August 27, Travis was honored as the Polsinelli Sportsman of the Year at the Kansas City Sports Awards, recognizing his achievement in becoming the NFL’s career leader in postseason receptions. During his acceptance speech, he expressed his gratitude to the Kansas City fans and reiterated his commitment to continue playing as long as he feels capable of contributing to the team’s success.
With his sights firmly set on a third consecutive Super Bowl, Travis Kelce shows no signs of slowing down, and the Chiefs’ faithful couldn’t be more excited to see what the future holds.
