Clark impressed everyone with her rookie season

WNBA analyst casts doubt on Caitlin Clark's second year with revamped Indiana Fever

After a stellar rookie season, Caitlin Clark is preparing for her second year in the WNBA with heightened expectations, but with significant roster and coaching changes, some analysts are questioning how well she will adjust.

Writer Levi Dombro highlighted these concerns, noting that the Indiana Fever’s offseason moves could pose an initial challenge for the young star.

“Clark was the feel-good story of the WNBA last season, but now, as a second-year player, expectations will be heightened for the young superstar and her team,” Dombro wrote.

“Indiana added several new faces through free agency and trade, so it may take some time for Clark to get used to her new teammates.”

The Fever bolstered their squad with the additions of forwards Natasha Howard and Brianna Turner, as well as guards DeWanna Bonner and Sophie Cunningham.

These experienced players bring defensive strength and leadership to Indiana’s lineup, but the team will need time to develop on-court chemistry.

While Clark will have to integrate with these new teammates, she will still rely on key returning players like Kelsey Mitchell, Lexie Hull, and fellow rising star Aliyah Boston.

Adapting to New Coaching Staff

In addition to roster changes, Clark will also be adjusting to a new coaching staff. Stephanie White has taken over as head coach, and Keith Porter has been brought in as a player development coach.

Establishing a strong rapport with the new leadership team will be crucial to her continued success.

“The Fever also have a new coach, so the team’s biggest question is how quickly all of the new pieces will fit together,” Dombro added.

Despite the uncertainty, Clark remains confident about Indiana’s future. Ahead of Iowa retiring her No. 22 jersey, she praised the work done by Fever executives Kelly Krauskopf and Amber Cox, expressing excitement for the upcoming season.

“I think Kelly and Amber have done a really good job of finding pieces that fit. It makes me excited about the future, with Steph and her staff coming in here,” Clark said. “My ability to work out with Keith all offseason has been really fun.”

While change brings challenges, Clark‘s leadership and adaptability will be key to the Fever’s success. With a revamped roster and a new coaching staff, all eyes will be on how she navigates her second WNBA season.
