The New York Liberty secured an 80-66 victory over the Minnesota Lynx in Game 2 of the WNBA Finals, but the match left much to be desired in terms of excitement and quality of play. Despite the win, the Liberty’s performance, alongside that of the Lynx, was marred by missed opportunities, poor execution, and an overall lack of intensity.
Brianna Stewart, who finished with 21 points, struggled to find consistency throughout the game. While she scored 14 points in the first half, her second-half performance faltered, contributing only seven points. Numerous missed layups highlighted Stewart’s night, with several of them coming in crucial moments, dampening her overall impact.
Sabrina Ionescu also had an uneven game. Despite a strong start, scoring 12 points in the first quarter, she managed just three more points for the remainder of the game, finishing with a quiet 15 points overall. The Liberty’s inability to maintain offensive momentum in the second half was evident, as the team posted only 31 points after halftime.
The Minnesota Lynx, on the other hand, struggled mightily on offense. They scored just 27 points in the second half and failed to capitalize on key possessions. Naphessa Collier’s seven turnovers added to the Lynx’s woes, and the team’s inability to convert easy baskets, particularly in the paint, proved costly.
Despite the star power on the floor, the game was riddled with missed layups, turnovers, and unforced errors on both sides. By the end of the first quarter, the Liberty led 31-21, but both teams failed to sustain the offensive energy, turning the game into a slog that lacked the competitive intensity often associated with playoff basketball.
While the WNBA Finals are known for delivering high-stakes action, this particular game felt flat, with little to excite the fans or generate buzz for the next matchup. Both teams will need to sharpen their performances heading into Game 3 if they hope to deliver the kind of thrilling basketball the league is known for.
