No one can attest to Johnny Depp’s talents as an actor more than his formidable career and versatile roles. And after a certain point, it is a fact imbued within the knowledge of every fan and fellow co-star in the industry. But despite decades worth of box office blockbusters and cult favorites, it was the most heated celebrity trial of the 21st century that ultimately brought down the industry goliath and cast him out of Hollywood for an indefinite period of time.

Benedict Cumberbatch Gushes About Co-star Johnny Depp

The actor who have the audience some of the best iterations of popular culture heroes starting from Sherlock to Marvel’s Doctor Strange aka Benedict Cumberbatch is first and foremost a movie star. His on-screen presence holds a weight that remains undisputed and such classic favorites as Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Patrick Melrose stand as testament to his skills. To have an actor of that caliber gushing volumes about Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean actor, Johnny Depp, accounts to a great deal.

While touring for his film Black Mass in 2015, the two-time Academy Award nominated actor said of Depp, his co-star on the violently well-versed film, Black Mass:
It’s a great experience working with Johnny Depp, it really really is. Just puts you at ease, he’s really supportive, guesses what you’re trying to do in a scene, really facilitates that. He’s accommodating… well, we have all been accommodating to script changes all the way along […] For Johnny, it’s easier doing that. It’s like breathing for him, you know.

The film revolves around the true events depicting the rise of James “Whitey” Bulger as one of the most notorious mob bosses in US history and the FBI’s unwitting contribution to his position as the kingpin of the criminal underworld.

Johnny Depp’s Current Take on Hollywood and Acting

As the Sweeney Todd actor gradually takes off in the world of music and period dramas, those loyal to the actor after the devastating defamation trial of 2022 have been awaiting his big comeback. Johnny Depp’s career began to roll downhill after the 2018 op-ed and besides being dropped from his role in the Fantastic Beasts franchise, he had also lost his position as the lead of Pirates of the Caribbean IP. The actor left mainstream Hollywood in the aftermath of the developments in his London libel trial (which Heard won) and the subsequent defamation trial (which ruled in favor of Depp).

Elsewhere in Europe, Johnny Depp was flaunting a flourishing music career while touring with his band, The Hollywood Vampires. The realm of acting too invited him back with a role in the French period drama, Jeanne du Barry and if conditions are favorable, he will return as a director for the first time in 25 years for Modi that revolves around the life of Italian painter and sculptor, Amedeo Modigliani, his time spent in Paris in the 1900s and the legacy he left behind.

In his most recent appearance at Cannes 2023, Depp clearly cut off all ties with the industry that he remains largely recognized with and claimed: “I don’t think about Hollywood. I don’t have much further need for Hollywood myself.”
