Chris Evans has a favorite Marvel movie that he has starred in – and it is not what you think!
Chris Evans, whose name is used pretty synonymously with Steve Rogers aka the original and former Captain America of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, recently perked up to share his favorite movie that he has been a part of from the multi-billionaire comics-based universe. And as surprising as it may be, this one film that he holds dearest is not Avengers: Endgame or Infinity War.

Instead, Chris Evans’ choice goes way back in time to when his career and character were more or less only starting to take shape and height in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And no, it isn’t Captain America: The First Avenger either. Rather, it is the $712 million grossing film from MCU’s Phase 2 of The Infinity Saga — Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014).
Chris Evans’ Favorite Marvel Film is Captain America: The Winter Soldier
We know what you’re thinking: When it comes to the best films ever from the Marvel Cinematic Universe starring Chris Evans in the lead as Captain America/Steve Rogers, the top choices are none other than Avengers: Endgame and Avengers: Infinity War.
And it is only understandable for you to expect the onscreen Steve Rogers to call these his favorite because those two films from the end projects of Phase Three of The Infinity Saga were some of the most spectacular and iconic films to have ever been created by the MCU.
However, Evans’ choice for having Captain America: The Winter Soldier as his personal favorite Marvel movie that he has starred in is also justified; and for a quite heartwarming reason at that, as the actor shared during his recent appearance at the Emerald City Comic Con 2024.

Since this year’s 4th of April would officially mark 10 years of The Winter Soldier since its initial release in 2014, the Fantastic Four actor got candid about his feelings for the film as he said (via AJFilms 28 | YouTube):
“It’s my personal favorite Marvel movie that I was a part of. It’s not just for the movie itself but the experience,” he said.
Elaborating on this statement, Chris Evans continued to express how he was “so nervous” while initially stepping into Captain America’s shoes, and “as a result, you’re playing defense and you’re playing not to lose.” But with Captain America 2, it was different.

“When ‘Winter Solider’ came around, we were playing to win. And it’s the first movie with the Russo Brothers. We were taking more risks, and the character felt more fleshed out. It was one of the more satisfying experiences I’ve had in my Marvel run.”
Because of all these reasons and heartwarming experiences that he cherishes to the core, Captain America: The Winter Soldier ranks as Chris Evans’ ultimate favorite Marvel movie that he has starred in. And perhaps, after finding out about this, it would turn into his fans’ favorite movie, too!
Captain America: The Winter Soldier was a Brutal Box Office Presence!
While Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame were the true box office-dominating giants out of all the MCU films Chris Evans has starred in, they were also made on massive budgets of $300 million to $400 million (via The Numbers).
In comparison, Captain America: The Winter Soldier was a big win for Marvel. Made on a budget of less than $200 million — $170 million, to be precise — it still managed to bring in a whopping $714.4 million, which was incredibly massive, considering how it was only the beginning of the saga.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)
According to stats by The Numbers, The Winter Soldier‘s opening weekend saw a $95 million gross, while the overall domestic box office revenue was $259.7 million and the international overall box office gross stood at $454.6 million.
Then there are all the star-studded reviews the film has, which includes a sparkling 90% rating by more than 300 critics on Rotten Tomatoes, along with more than 92% of viewers becoming fans of the film series after watching Captain America 2.
