Emily Blunt Was Embarrassed About ‘Crawling Naked Over’ Tom Hanks in $119M Film Because He Could Pass as Her Father: “Maybe it was weird for him too”

Emily Blunt has been making waves in Hollywood with her scene-stealing performances and impressive filmography because she is feisty, funny, and not your typical English rose. Blunt is on the fast track to stardom thanks to her roles in films like The Devil Wears Prada and The Young Victoria, where she played Queen Victoria.

Blunt is a talented actress, but even she can feel embarrassed, as she did while filming a scene with Tom Hanks for a $119 million movie.

Emily Blunt Unveils the Awkward Moment

Charlie Wilson's WarCharlie Wilson’s War
Blunt talked candidly to the interviewer about working with Tom Hanks in the film Charlie Wilson’s War. Blunt’s abilities are highlighted in this satirical political drama despite her brief on-screen time; the film was written by Aaron Sorkin and directed by Mike Nichols.

Jane, portrayed by Blunt, is the daughter of one of Hanks’ constituents; Blunt labels her “schizophrenic” and “duplicitous.” Blunt’s scene in which she crawls naked over Tom Hanks was one of the film’s highlights. Thinking back on the event, Blunt says she felt “surreal” and embarrassed.
“It was surreal! And embarrassing, always, because it’s just you with your tits hanging out, and you have to hope that the lighting’s nice. There are some people who feel OK and confident with prancing around in their underwear. I wouldn’t say I was one of those people. So you just become someone who’s good at it. But he is such a gentleman. Maybe it was weird for him too, because…”
Emily Blunt‘s embarrassment was compounded by the fact that she could have been mistaken for Hanks’s daughter, given their age difference. The actress believes it could have also been weird for him because she “could be his daughter.”
“I could be his daughter. And I’m friends with his son – I did”

Blunt and Tom Hank’s son Colin Hanks became friends while filming The Great Buck Howard. This is especially odd for both actors because Tom Hanks is not known for portraying s*xually suggestive or explicit scenes.
“…Tom Hanks is not known for these kind of scenes, for being that kind of guy – and Charlie Wilson was a massive player, he was really promiscuous. And s*xy! Tom was so really good at that. He’s really s*xy!”
But Blunt says Hanks was a true gentleman and professional on set. She thinks he did a fantastic job embodying the promiscuous and charming Charlie Wilson. He made acting out those scenes look so easy. And he watched out for me like a hawk. Blunt affirms affectionately, “And he’s a gent.”
“I promise you. He just made it effortless, to do those scenes. And he was very protective of me. And he’s a gent.”
In Charlie Wilson’s War, Blunt shared the screen with another A-lister, Julia Roberts. Blunt reached a major career milestone when she appeared alongside the world’s highest-paid actress in a film. The day before she went to the Golden Globes, she enjoyed working with Roberts, whom she admired for her charisma and “million-dollar smile.”

“I worked with her the day before I went to the Golden Globes and she’s great at performing at those things – she’s got that million-dollar smile that could light up a room. I remember her and Philip Seymour Hoffman having a fight…”
Blunt recalls with fondness a scene in which Roberts and Philip Seymour Hoffman had a heated argument on screen.

Emily Blunt’s Versatility In Big-Budget Hollywood Productions

Blunt’s versatility and comedic timing have made her a sought-after talent in major Hollywood productions and smaller indie films. She shows her versatility and dedication to her craft by easily juggling roles in big-budget Hollywood productions and more thoughtful independent films.

Blunt has demonstrated her acting chops in various films, from The Devil Wears Prada to Dan in Real Life, where she made a lasting impression. Blunt’s personal life has also garnered attention, in addition to her acting career.

Blunt knows the importance of managing the competitive landscape while maintaining positive relationships with her peers, such as Keira Knightley, Rachel McAdams, and Anne Hathaway, who are often considered for similar roles.
