Daniel Craig Didn’t Mean To Showcase His Body

The unexpected shot came about when Daniel Craig unintentionally swam into a sandbank in a less-than-ideal location. While filming in the Bahamas, they encountered a sand shelf just three feet deep. Originally intended to elegantly swim in and glide away, Craig ended up swimming in and unexpectedly standing up due to the peculiar conditions at that spot. It turned out to be a serendipitous occurrence.

“It was actually by accident,” he said. “Where we filmed, off the Bahamas, it’s just one of those places where there is a sand shelf and the sand shelf happens to be three feet deep. Because the idea was, I was supposed to swim in and sort of float off, but I swim in and stand up. And it was just one of those things.”

Craig quickly recognized that the scene bore a striking resemblance to the iconic moment in the first Bond film, “Dr. No,” when Ursula Andress emerged from the sea.
“It was going through my mind … as I did it, I went, ‘Oh fuck’. But I didn’t realise the repercussions of it,” he said. “I had no idea I would be haunted by it for the rest of my life.”
The promotional images for the 2006 film featured this shot, emphasizing Craig’s toned physique, which conveyed the message that he would portray a grittier and more rugged incarnation of Ian Fleming’s iconic superspy, setting him apart from his predecessors.
