“I would love to work with you”: Margot Robbie, One of World’s Sexiest Women Alive, Did 1 Thing to Star in $377M Leonardo DiCaprio Movie

When talent meets opportunity, dreams come true in Hollywood. At 33, Margot Robbie has established one of the most impressive early careers in film thanks to her leading roles in The Wolf of Wall Street, Suicide Squad, and most recently, Barbie.

The actress, who is renowned for giving spellbinding performances in films like I, Tonya, and Birds of Prey, has always admired Quentin Tarantino’s distinct storytelling approach and his capacity to inspire compelling performances from his actors. Thus, Robbie made the decision to take matters into her own hands after realizing that her desire to appear in Tarantino’s films had turned into more than just a wish.

Robbie has enthralled opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in Quentin Tarantino’s 2019 comedy-drama Once Upon A Time in… Hollywood. But getting the role was not that easy for the actress.

She defied convention and wrote a moving letter to Tarantino at a time when emails and text messages were the primary forms of communication.

Margot Robbie Wrote A Moving Letter To Quentin Tarantino

They say that nothing can stop you from achieving your goals if you want them badly enough. Margot Robbie was aware of the task at hand and put her desire for that Once Upon A Time in… Hollywood role in a letter for director Quentin Tarantino.

The director spoke with her for the Vogue Australia cover story, and they discussed the “happenstance” that led to her being cast. When Robbie’s letter arrived, Tarantino revealed that he was finishing up his script and was incredibly interested in casting her as Sharon Tate.

She stated that although she had long wanted to collaborate with him, she did not feel ready to approach him at the beginning of her career:

“I had wanted to write the letter for years and years and years. Because I’d heard you were going to do 10 movies and I couldn’t bear the thought I would miss the boat and never see what one of your film sets was like: I needed to figure out a way to get on to set. Maybe I could even hold a door in the back of a scene. But at the same time I wasn’t really in the right position to reach out to Quentin Tarantino and say: ‘Hello, my name is Margot and can I come visit your sets?’”
After I, Tonya’s success, the actress admitted that she finally felt brave enough to contact Tarantino, though she was still unsure of how to go about it:
“I remember agonising over everything – the paper, the pen, how I was going to write it – big, small, spaced out. Then, of course, I thought you might not be able to get the letter anyway, so I should stop freaking out so much, and then I just wrote the goddamn thing and prayed that somehow it would get to you, and it did. A couple of weeks later I remember getting the phone call saying: ‘Quentin got your letter and he’d really like to meet up.’”

Margot Robbie, the star of Barbie, admitted in her 2019 Vogue cover story that she had always wanted to work with Quentin Tarantino but had been holding off until she felt she was good enough as an actor to approach him. She revealed:
“So I wrote him and said, ‘I adore your films, and I would love to work with you in some capacity. Or any capacity.’”
Tarantino explained to in the same interview that he picked Robbie for the role because she

“Looks like Sharon Tate. And she can convey Sharon’s innocence and purity — those qualities are integral to the story.”
The star was eventually cast in Tarantino’s movie Once Upon A Time in… Hollywood, so Robbie’s letter was successful.
