There are many times in one’s life when they are brought to experience certain things in life that take them to unfamiliar roads in their lives, which can a little scary if you’re in the phase of growing up. One such occasion came in the life of MCU star Scarlett Johansson when she was shooting Lost In Translation with Bill Murray, where she constantly felt like she couldn’t make out what and why things were happening around her.

During an interview with Howard Stern on his podcast, the Lucy star shared her unusual experience with the film, where she talked about how she felt that she wasn’t being kept in the loop about what was happening on the sets of the film. along with that, the 34-year age gap between her and Murray and his eccentric nature made the film a really difficult project to work on, especially at the time when she was just 17 years old. She said:
“It was hard; it was a hard shoot for me,” Johansson said. I felt sort of out of the loop. I was 17 years old when I made that movie, you know. I think it was because, you know, he kind of has his — he’s a comedian, he’s quirky … and he had a lot of, like, ups and downs, and he had a lot of energy, and he was really, like, kind of always on, And I was, you know, a 17-year-old, and I was sort of like — I was more introspective, I guess. … Yeah, it was hard for me. I think that’s what was kind of isolating about it — is that everybody was so deferential [to Murray].”
Despite these hardships faced by her, she and Murray were a hit together on the set, which was also reflected in the film after its release. Thus, hardship turned Johansson into a better actor and gave her the experience that she needed to grow in the industry.

Sofia Coppola’s Lost In Translation is a story about how two people, who are far away from home in the heart of Tokyo, find solace in each other’s company despite their age differences. The performance by the legendary comedian is absolutely amazing as he controls every emotion and depicts it like he’s forcing it on his face. Along with this, Johansson gives a performance of a young girl that is still trying to find her way in the world. This journey to find reason in the world is what makes the film stand out.
