Like when Depp went through his defamation trial against Amber Heard, Downey Jr. was there to celebrate his victory with a FaceTime. According to reports from the New York Post, Johnny Depp’s close friend Josh Richman revealed how Robert Downey Jr. FaceTimed Depp during a charity livestream event for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Calling him to celebrate his victory in the defamation case against Heard, Downey Jr. said, “John, thank God it’s over” to Depp over FaceTime.

Even a spokesman for Johnny Depp later confirmed that Robert Downey Jr. indeed called the actor to support him and celebrate his victory, right after the verdict was announced.

Receiving constant support from Robert Downey Jr. throughout his trial and finally getting a celebratory call from the actor, Johnny Depp did something similar for the MCU actor. Setting envious friendship goals, the Sweeney Todd actor took to his Instagram after Downey Jr. won his first Oscar for Oppenheimer.

Previously, both Robert Downey Jr. and Johnny Depp were in the same boat, as neither of them had won an Oscar in their decades-long career. But after March 10, as Downey Jr. created history with his first coveted award, Depp forged a strong friendship as he expressed his appreciation and pride for Downey Jr’s win.

Congratulating Robert Downey Jr. for his Oscar win, Johnny Depp wrote a heartfelt message on his Instagram story for the actor. “Let’s try this again… Congratulations to my dear friend.” Depp’s story read. Accompanying the montage with a touch of humor, Depp shared the story featuring photos of him and Downey Jr. from the 2011 Golden Globes.
