Mills is a 15-year veteran of the league and won a Championship with the San Antonio Spurs in 2014.
The Hawks converted the contract of Trent Forrest from a two-way deal to a standard pact following Mills’ release, per ESPN.
Australian star Mills joined the Hawks from the Oklahoma City Thunder after a busy 2023 offseason.
He was traded three times last summer after leaving the Brooklyn Nets.
This season Mills has featured in 19 games, averaging just over 10 minutes on the court.
He’s shot a career-low 37.3 percent from the field during that span.
“Does Patty Mills get another gig this season in the @NBA?” asked one fan on X.
“Feels like he would like that even if it is just to tune up a bit for the Boomers. Phoenix have a roster spot.”
“Patty is a good person and teammate. He provided leadership, encouragement, and points of his own,” said another.
“Showed heart every minute of playing time, wishing him the best,” a third said.
“I think Patty has been underplayed on every NBA team,” claimed a fourth.
Mills was a second-round pick for the Portland Trail Blazers in 2009.
He had spells in Australia and China before landing with the Spurs where he won his Championship ring a decade ago.
Mills has played over 875 games in the NBA, averaging 8.9 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per contest.
Since entering the league in 2009, he has earned $81,520,846, per Spotrac.
