Jamie Foxx is an incredible, who would quite frankly go to any lengths to portray his characters with a fervent zeal and unparalleled dedication that might shock anyone. This is exactly what happened when Foxx was shooting a very intimate love scene with a body double that shocked the director, who wasn’t sure he could keep up.
The movie was Miami Vice and the director was Michael Mann. Despite Mann having made the film on the persistence of Foxx, he was seemingly taken back after having seen Foxx’s antics during the intimate scene.
Jamie Foxx Surprised Director With His Intense S*x Scene
Director Michael Mann
Based on the hit television show of the same name, Miami Vice features Jamie Foxx as an undercover detective. Involving harsh shootouts, action sequences, and high-stakes undercover operations, it was set against the backdrop of nightlife and the gritty urban landscape. It even involved an extremely intense love scene, courtesy of Foxx, which made the director too uncomfortable to film it.
Naomie Harris was Foxx’s love interest, but for their love scene, a body double was called.
“Her body was whoa. Whoever picked her was right on. She had never done it before. So, they were setting up the shot, hanging the lights, and she just walked on to the set, took her robe off and goes ‘Where do I go?’”
And then their intense love scene started which made director Michael Mann too uncomfortable.
“The first time he said action we were going at it. Then the covers come off. We’re both nude. Then I heard ‘Cut, cut’. Michael Mann came over and said ‘S***.’ I said ‘What’s wrong?’ He said ‘I don’t know if I can shoot this.’”
Foxx however retorted back with a hilarious reply.
“I said ‘That’s black love, man. That’s how we do it. There’s jungle drums playing.’”
Despite Mann’s uncomfortableness, the Django Unchained star exclaimed it was great.
Michael Mann Made Miami Vice Because Of Jamie Foxx
A still from Miami Vice
Michale Mann was the one behind the hit television series Miami Vice. However, he had no plans to make a feature film until Foxx convinced him to do so.
“When I talked to Michael Mann, and just learned about who Michael Mann was, I made a couple rookie mistakes, saying, ‘Why don’t you do Miami Vice? You did it as a television show. And, we do Jay-Z, and we do this and we do that.’ And, he was like, ‘Get out of here.’”
Jamie Foxx’s repeated insistence finally had Mann convinced to make a feature film. And soon enough Colin Farrell, who had been looking for opportunities to work with Mann, was roped in to star along with Jamie Foxx in the hit crime thriller.
Miami Vice can be rented on Apple TV.
