Actress Britt Ekland was one of the most popular actresses of the 60s and 70s era. She was a talented actress, model, and singer of Swedish origin. The actress appeared in numerous box-office hits of the time including Double Man, The Night They Raided Minsky’s, Machine Gun McCain, Get Carter, and others. She was cast as Bond Girl in 1974’s The Man with the Golden Gun.
The former Bond girl opened up on the evolving nature of Bond women in later movies. She seemed impressed by the vast improvement in the character over the years.
Bond girl Britt Ekland talks about evolution of Bond women
Charming actress, Britt Ekland, starred opposite Roger Moore in the film The Man with the Golden Gun. She played the role of 007’s personal secretary Mary Goodnight in the spy film. It was only Bond film where she worked as Bond girl. In the movie, Roger Moore played the role of James Bond. Ekland became a rising sex symbol with her work in 1971’s Get Carter, which eventually landed her the role of a Bond Girl.

During an interview published by Metro, Ekland talked about her time in the Bond franchise and how Bond Girl has evolved in later years. The actor added that the working conditions in modern Bond films have improved greatly for the franchise’s women.
Britt Ekland said,
“There are no more Bond girls, they are Bond women today. They have it with the political correctness and the #MeToo, they have a much better time than we had.”
In the context of the Bond girls in the past few years, there have been some legitimate love interests like Vesper Lynd and Madeleine Swann. With the introduction of genuine equals such as Lashana Lynch’s Nomi and Ana de Armas’ Paloma, Craig’s films have taken giant steps towards the evolution of the role. But for the franchise to continue relevance, it must do away from its misogynistic roots.
Bond girl Britt Ekland feels prior James Bond films were more fun
Talking in detail in the interview, Ekland shared that even though the earlier Bond girls were less evolved, the films were more fun to watch. She said,
“But I don’t think that the end product is as fun as ours were, because we were pretty and we had good bodies and we didn’t try to look sexy, we just were.”

“Today, everything is so, ‘Don’t do that because that will upset that side.’ We didn’t have any of that. We just went out there, we were always in a bikini and all these people are fully dressed, very typical, but it was a job and we did it. So, I think today the Bond women have it – from a political correctness point of view – in a much better position. But I think we had more fun.”
The Man with the Golden Gun was the fourth film directed by Guy Hamilton. Richard Maibaum and Tom Mankiewicz wrote the script. The James Bond film grosses $97.6 million worldwide.
The Man with the Golden Gun is available for streaming on Apple TV.
