“You truly hate each other!”: Scarlett Johansson Had Some “Fiery” Nights With X-Men Star On Stage That Left Her “Excited”

Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City, much like his other wonderous creations, is a cinematic extravaganza to behold and was just as much of a sui generis experience for the ensemble cast to partake in, especially for Scarlett Johansson. There have only been a handful of times when the actress felt even remotely similar to the way she did when she was on the set of the sci-fi comedy, and one of those times involved fervent Broadway nights with a certain X-Men star.

Scarlett Johansson’s “Fiery” Time With Liev Schreiber

When she sat down with Yahoo! Entertainment to talk about her latest venture with Wes Anderson, Scarlett Johansson reveled in just how phenomenal her collaboration with the 54-year-old director had been.

Anderson, for this movie, infused his hyper-realistic color palette with a black-and-white film narrative. For ScarJo, being a part of such a moment, wherein two strikingly distinctive realms converge in a way so intense it leaves the people involved breathless from catharsis, reminded her of the time she spent on Broadway with actor/director Liev Schreiber, who also starred with her in Asteroid City –

“When Liev Schreiber and I did A View From the Bridge on Broadway together, there were some nights that were fiery. You truly hate each other! Not personally, but it gets to where you’re so lost in it that you have these profound, visceral moments with another person that leave you full of energy. It’s so exciting.”
As for working with Anderson, Johansson had nothing but high praise for her time with the Isle of Dogs filmmaker.

What It Was Like Working With Wes Anderson

Although this wasn’t the first time the Marvel veteran joined forces with the acclaimed director, it was certainly her first time being in front of the camera in his project, and a worthwhile one at that. Anderson’s eccentric yet enticing style of filmmaking isn’t the only memorable thing about working with him, his energy on set, which happens to be full of zest, paired with his interactive and exciting disposition is what makes it all the more significant to be a part of his vision.

Speaking to Collider about the same, Johansson, 38, remarked –
“He’s really excited by the process, and he somehow has more energy as the day goes on. He’s so invigorated by work, and he just works constantly, and he comes off the set and he’s so excited about the work that you did that day, he’s already prepping for the next day. He’s so engaging and very funny and very vivacious.”
Asteroid City can be rented or purchased on Apple Tv+.
