On Monday afternoon, Phoenix Mercury star Brittney Griner and Team USA made their 2024 Paris Olympics debut against Japan. The USA women’s national basketball team, aiming for their eighth consecutive gold medal, has won seven straight at the Olympics.

Before the game, a video went viral with over 300,000 views, featuring a Japan fan holding a sign that read: “You need Caitlin Clark to beat us.”

In the video, Griner and Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson notice the sign and start pointing at it. Griner can be heard giving a simple response after seeing it:

“Oh wow,” Griner said to Wilson.

Clark was notably left off the Team USA women’s basketball roster, but they remain heavy favorites to win gold.

The former Iowa Hawkeyes star demonstrated her potential as a key contributor for Team USA when she helped Team WNBA defeat them in the 2024 WNBA All-Star game.

Griner is participating in her third Olympics. She played a key role in helping Team USA secure gold medals at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. This year, she will be coming off the bench for Team USA.
