Bush welcomes grandson named after great-grandfathers

George W. Bush is filled with joy as he shares the news of the newest addition to his growing family. The 78-year-old former president recently took to social media to announce the birth of his grandson.

On Tuesday, August 6, Bush posted a heartfelt message on Instagram, congratulating his daughter, Barbara Pierce Bush, and her husband, Craig Coyne, on the birth of their second child. The couple, who are already parents to two-year-old Cora Georgia, welcomed a baby boy, Edward Finn, just a few days ago.

In the touching photo Bush shared, Barbara and Craig are shown in a hospital bed, gazing lovingly at their newborn son. The joy on their faces is unmistakable. Bush captioned the post, “Meet Edward Finn Coyne. @laurawbush and I are overjoyed to welcome this new blessing, born on August 4 and named in honor of his great-grandfathers. Congratulations to Barbara, Craig, and big sister Cora Georgia.”

Barbara’s twin sister, Jenna Bush Hager, who co-hosts the *Today* show, was the first to break the happy news on Monday, August 5. Jenna, 42, expressed her excitement about becoming an aunt again in a sweet Instagram post, sharing a series of photos that captured special moments after Edward’s birth. In one photo, Jenna is seen tenderly holding her new nephew, while another shows Barbara cradling Edward as Jenna watches with admiration. The third image features baby Edward peacefully gazing at his mother.

Though Jenna didn’t reveal many details about her nephew’s birth, the photos radiate the family’s happiness. According to Today.com, Edward was wearing a cap from NYU Langone Health, suggesting that Barbara may have delivered her son at the prominent New York City hospital.

Laura and George W. Bush couldn’t be more thrilled about their expanding family. After Cora was born in 2021, the former president and first lady expressed their joy in a joint statement, saying, “With full hearts, @laurawbush and I are excited to announce the birth of our granddaughter.” Cora Georgia Coyne was born on September 27, 2021, in Maine, not far from the family’s home where Barbara and Craig were married. “We are so thankful for Cora’s health and that she is absolutely perfect.”

Now, with the arrival of Edward Finn, the Bush family has even more to celebrate.
