Robert Hunter, a sheriff’s deputy from North Carolina won hearts and a place on this season of The Voice with a stunning cover of Cody Johnson’s “‘Til You Can’t.”

Season 27 of The Voice is well underway, and so far this season, there haven’t been many country artists auditioning. So it was refreshing to see Robert Hunter lend his vocals to Cody Johnson‘s song, “‘Til You Can’t” for his Blind Audition.

Hunter, a 33-year-old sheriff’s deputy from Garner, North Carolina, chose the song because it holds a very real meaning to him and his family. Robert Hunter's wife and daughter joined him on stage following his 'Voice' auditionChristian Davis Hunter/Facbeook

Prior to his audition, Hunter told cameras that he doesn’t know what tomorrow holds, especially in law enforcement. The singer, who lost a friend in the line of duty, lives every day to the fullest with his wife and daughter, knowing that his job comes with a great deal of risk.

The conviction was evident in Hunter’s voice as he sang the Cody Johnson hit, and earned him chair turns from Kelsea Ballerini and Michael Buble.

Michael and Kelsea fought hard to win over Robert Hunter.

Both coaches plead their cases in hopes of convincing Robert Hunter to join their The Voice team. Kelsea told Hunter that while there were pitch issues, she was looking for “story tellers, writers, artists” and praised his delivery of the song.

Michael Buble noted that he may not be a country artist but that he loves country music. He joked that he hadn’t learned his lesson about turning his chair for country artists, but that he genuinely loves the genre.

Ultimately, Robert brought out his wife and 3-year-old daughter, Mary Blake, to help him choose which team to join. He didn’t waste any time joining Team Kelsea after Mary Blake revealed that the “Penthouse” singer is her favorite artist.
