Meghan Markle is said to want to “transform herself into American royalty” according to a psychology expert, who claimed the duchess’s latest appearance is a strong indicator of her “ultimate aim”.

The Duchess of Sussex attended the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Gala last Saturday but she wasn’t joined by her husband, Prince Harry, who had been touring New York, London and Southern Africa in the past few weeks.

Meghan chose a striking red dress for her appearance and according to psychotherapist Dr Robi Ludwig her style choice was “in sync” with her “taking control of her life and doing things her way again.”

Dr Ludwig told Fox News: “Meghan’s ultimate aim seems to be to make herself relevant and to transform herself into American royalty who is admired and powerful, independent of her husband.

“Whether this will be successful remains to be seen, as the public has not always been receptive to many aspects of her character and personality.”

The expert explained that red is a “powerful, boss lady colour” which often symbolises attraction, confidence and empowerment and could help Meghan send the message that saying that “I’m here, I’m not hiding, and I’m ready to assume my position of power”.

She said: “The ‘red dress effect’ studies found that red enhances the male gaze and encourages men to find women wearing red more appealing. In fashion, red is also considered a power colour that represents strength and determination.

“The hair is a throwback to her Hollywood actress days. It’s all in sync with Meghan taking control of her life and doing things her way again.”

On Saturday, the duchess rubbed shoulders with other celebrities including Demi Lovato, Kaley Cuoco, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jimmy Kimmel and Colin Hanks.

She was also snapped on the red carpet with her close friend Kelly McKee Zajfen.

In a new update on the Sussex website, Meghan revealed she was invited to the poignant event as a special guest.

The statement read: “This weekend, Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex attended the biennial Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) Gala, an inspiring event dedicated to celebrating the exceptional services provided to children across LA. Invited as a special guest by CHLA’s president and CEO, Paul Viviano, The Duchess was proud to stand alongside esteemed guests in support of this vital cause.”

It added: “The Duchess has a long-standing connection with CHLA, having visited the hospital on several occasions to meet with patients and participate in the annual Make March Matter campaign.

“Her presence at the gala underscored her commitment to advocating for the health and well-being of children around the world.”
