Reba McEntire Explains Why She Doesn’t Talk About Politics

While many artists are becoming more outspoken about their political leanings, Reba McEntire says that her fans won’t hear her talking politics.
In a newly resurfaced clip from 2017, Reba told The View hosts why she would never talk politics at her concerts. The show’s co-host, Joy Behar, asked the country legend how her fans would react if she were to ever go on a political rant during a concert. Reba replied, “My fans would be shocked.”
She further explained, “They have paid their hard-earned money to come in there and fill a seat. Parking, getting something at the concessions, going to eat before the concert. I am there to entertain them … so I am not going to give them my political views. It’s not my job.”
Reba’s goal is to distract her fans from the worries and care of everyday life so that when they leave “they can have a little lilt in their step.”
Behar argued that some artists refrain from sharing where they stand on issues out of fear of it alienating fans and negatively affecting their brand. When asked if that is important to her, Reba responded:
“That’s not as important as just, this is my job to entertain. It shouldn’t be my platform to be up on stage giving my political views.”
In 2021, Reba doubled down on her vow to avoid politics.
An invitation to an fundraising event held in Montana was sent out with Reba McEntire’s name listed as an attendee. The event was supported by numerous Montana Republican politicians and South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem.
But, Reba denied any involvement and issued a statement saying that the invite was sent out without her knowledge or her permission.
“I had and have no plans to attend this event and had told the event organizers as such.” McEntire added, “Throughout my career, I have stated that I do not get involved in politics and that remains true today.”
A representative for Noem’s office defended the invitation information saying, “The Kristi for Governor campaign follows standard operating procedure when it comes to confirming and listing hosts for the Governor’s events. That includes written confirmation. The procedures were followed in this instance.”
Reba McEntire is a proud American.
Reba fans may not know where she stands on political issues, but there’s no doubt that she loves America. The “Fancy” singer’s patriotism was on full display when she took the mic to sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” ahead of Super Bowl LVIII in 2024.

During an interview held during halftime of the Big Game, McEntire told press that she was honored to be asked to sing the national anthem.
“It means that I get to sing a very special song for all Americans, people all around the world who have really worked so hard for our freedom and to give us peace,” McEntire said. “It’s not about me. I’m the representation of this song, and I’m just honored to get to sing it.”
