The atmosphere at Mile 0 Fest in Key West, Florida, was already electric, filled with the sweet sounds of Americana, country, and rock. But nothing could have prepared the crowd for what was about to unfold: a surprise reunion set from none other than Cross Canadian Ragweed, one of the most beloved Red Dirt bands of all time

Cross Canadian Ragweed shocked fans last October when they announced a string of reunion shows slated for this April in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Dubbed The Boys from Oklahoma, the four-night run at Boone Pickens Stadium will feature Ragweed, Turnpike Troubadours, The Great Divide, Jason Boland & The Straggles, and Stoney LaRue. However, it seems that the band couldn’t wait until April to get back onstage together. Instead, they reunited for the first time in more than a decade during Mile 0 Fest in Key West, Florida.

Mile 0 Fest set the stage for the Cross Canadian Ragweed reunion. The festival hosted a tribute to Ragweed with several artists taking the stage to play some of the band’s most beloved songs. Additionally, CCR frontman Cody Canada was on the bill with his band The Departed. After the tribute performance ended, Canada, Grady Cross, Randy Ragsdale, and Jeremy Plato took the stage to give the fans something special: the real deal. Watch the triumphant return of the Red Dirt legends below.

The band kicked off their set with “Number” from the classic album Soul Gravy along with other fan favorites. After the opening song, Canada took a moment to address the crowd.

Cody Addresses the Crowd During the Cross Canadian Ragweed Reunion Set

“I guess it’s cold because Hell froze over,” Canada said. “I don’t even really know what to say. Don’t know how to talk about this moment. This is the first time we’ve played in front of human beings. So instead of talking and getting all f**kin’ sappy we’re going to play until they tell us to stop playing music,” he added. Later in the set, Canada revealed that they didn’t plan the reunion set. It happened organically.

“I can’t believe that we’re actually doing this. I can’t believe that you guys still listen to us after all these years,” he said later in the set. Then, he addressed the future of the band. “People have asked what’s next after Stillwater. The only thing I have to say is please trust us and stay tuned.”

Cross Canadian Ragweed will headline the four-night Boys from Oklahoma concert series starting April 10 at the Boone Pickens Stadium at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
