The crowd erupted in shock as Blake Shelton, mid-performance, paused and casually teased, “I think we need someone special for this one.” Moments later, Kelly Clarkson strolled onto the stage, and the energy in the room shifted. As the two launched into their surprise duet of “Lonely Tonight,” their voices melted together, raw and electric, like a conversation too personal for anyone else to hear.

13-year-old violin prodigy Karolina Protsenko has over 2 billion views on YouTube for her violin performance videos. She credits Latter-day Saint Lindsey Stirling for inspiring her to start taking ballet classes and incorporate dance into her performances. And last week, Karolina was invited on The Kelly Clarkson Show under the premise of performing one of Lindsey Stirling’s songs, but the opportunity quickly became even bigger and more exciting than she anticipated.

Before Karolina’s appearance on the show, host Kelly Clarkson brought out Lindsey Stirling and chatted with her about Lindsey’s new custom line of violins, her nonprofit to help families pay hospital bills, and sweet Karolina and her videos.

At the end of their conversation, Kelly asked Lindsey to hide backstage while she interviewed Karolina so they could surprise her with a very special meet-and-greet.

You can see the full interviews with Lindsey and Karolina in the player below. Their sweet, surprise introduction takes place at the 7:30 minute mark.

In the first minutes of their meeting, Lindsey told Karolina through laughter, “I wish I could say you remind me of me when I was little, but you are so much more talented!”

Lindsey also gave Karolina one of her new custom violins and asked if she could perform alongside her at the end of the show. Karolina was all-too-overjoyed to say yes.
