Whoopi Goldberg has arrived to the red carpet, looking like the embodiment of a futuristic Oscar trophy who time-traveled to remind everyone she’s got an EGOT. If the Academy had any sense, they’d just let her host again

Whoopi Goldberg generally loves sticking to her favorite fashion staples, but for the 2025 Oscars, the actress decided to switch her look up and go for a stunning gown that shone so brightly, it looked like actual water come to life on the red carpet.

The actress attended the 97th Academy Awards in a deep blue gown by Christian Siriano. The dress swept across her chest into a draped boatneck that exposed the tiniest hint of her collarbones, while the rest of the gown went fitted at the waist and extended into a full princess skirt. The camera flashes caused the fabric of the dress to look luminescent—so much so, that Goldberg called it “liquid water” while taking a break to speak with reporters on the red carpet.

“Baby, that’s my dress,” the 69-year-old EGOT winner said she told Siriano when she saw her gown in person for the first time. “This dress is spectacular. When it moves, when it blows, that’s what it looks like, [liquid water].”

Goldberg kept the rest of her look incredibly chic. To match the color of the dress, the actress wore a deep purple lipstick. She kept a fresh complexion and wore a hint of eyeliner to make her eyes pop against her wire-rimmed glasses. For added sparkle, she wore diamond encrusted studs and a matching chain around her neck.

The actress is attending the 2025 Oscars as a presenter, which will mark her first time at the awards show in nearly 10 years. Though Goldberg hosted the awards show four times, and won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar in 1990 for starring in Ghost, she hasn’t attended the show since she presented the segment for the Honorary Academy Awards and the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award in 2016.
