A top NFL head coach has made an interesting comparison between Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and a top NBA superstar.

Patrick Mahomes has unquestionably been the best player in football since taking over as the Chiefs’ starting quarterback in 2018. His three Super Bowl championships, three SB MVPs and two regular season MVP awards speak for themselves, not to mention the Chiefs have played in six straight AFC Championship Games.

 

Mahomes’ all-world play, stats and individual accomplishments have already put him in discussions for the GOAT (greatest of all time). And in the eyes of one NFL head coach, Mahomes has changed the game like one of the other most influential athletes of his generation.

 

Speaking on 92.3 The Fan, Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski compared Mahomes to Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry, citing how both stars have changed their respective sports:

 

“You know, it’s funny, it’s almost…you know how Steph Curry changed basketball? I think Mahomes is changing football. You’re watching quarterbacks come out and play that style, they comport themselves like him. So I would not be surprised if you started seeing that around, certainly, our league. You’re going to see kids in high school trying it. Now, they better complete it.”

 

Curry has secured his legacy as the greatest three-point shooter in NBA history, and some will argue that he’s a top-10 all-time player. Like Mahomes, Curry has dazzled with his jaw-dropping skill set, athleticism and pinpoint accuracy.

 

So yes, Stefanski’s comparison of Patrick Mahomes to Stephen Curry is a flattering one. The reigning NFL Coach of the Year will have a chance to defeat Mahomes for the first time when the Browns host Kansas City in Week 15.

 

Patrick Mahomes & Chiefs Aim For First NFL Three-Peat

 

No team in NFL history has won three straight Super Bowls, and only three teams have reached the big game three years in a row (the 1971 to ’73 Miami Dolphins, 1990 to ’93 Buffalo Bills and 2016 to ’18 New England Patriots).

 

So we’ll see if Mahomes and his Chiefs can make history as the first team in NFL history to win three straight Super Bowls. Their title defense begins on Sept. 5 with a home contest against Lamar Jackson’s Baltimore Ravens.
