After losing to the Connecticut Sun on Wednesday night, Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever’s season officially came to an end. Though it was a heartbreaking loss, things are still looking bright for the Fever as they had one of the most historic seasons in WNBA history.

That said, after their loss, third-year player NaLyssa Smith has been hinting at her departure from the Fever. Most recently, after making a long heartfelt post on Twitter or “X,” she removed the Fever from her Instagram bio. As she’s not a free agent this offseason, it could mean she will request a trade.

As a result, this has led fans to propose quite the trade idea that would land Las Vegas Aces’ rookie Kate Martin in Indiana with the Fever. Martin is a former teammate of Clark at Iowa and one of the most beloved players in the WNBA.

While this would be a fantastic move in terms of chemistry, it may not be the most logical one for the Fever. They already have two really good young players, and will likely only be looking at players who will have an immediate impact.

For reference, Martin averaged just 2.6 PPG, 1.6 RPG, and 0.9 APG this season with the Aces. While she certainly has a lot of potential, she wouldn’t make the Fever much better right away. Smith, along with being a solid defender, averaged over 10 PPG, and 7.0 RPG, making her impact felt.

That said, this was a step-down from her previous year, in which she averaged 15 PPG. This drop-off does show that being in Indiana may not be the best situation for Smith, but Martin would not be enough to fill the void left by her, especially if the Fever are looking to push for a championship.
