The Indiana Fever failed to get the job done on Wednesday night after losing to the Las Vegas Aces 75-86. Despite that, Caitlin Clark proved to be a difference-maker again after recording 16 points, three rebounds, and six assists.
Superstar forward, A’Ja Wilson showed why she’s in the running for WNBA’s MVP award this season. The Aces star put up a ridiculous 27 points, 12 rebounds, and two assists.
It was a closely contested game that had sports fans on the edge of their seats. So much so, that it turns out that Clark and the Fever have broken yet another viewership record during her rookie season.
Wednesday night’s Aces-Fever game reeled in a whopping 678,000 viewers. It’s officially the most watched WNBA game on NBA TV ever while also being the most viewed game on NBA TV in general. It surpassed the 2023 Game 5 playoff matchup between the Miami Heat and Milwaukee Bucks, according to Sports Media Watch.
Thanks to Clark generating views, the WNBA is seemingly catching up to the NBA. Especially on NBA TV where women’s basketball has historically received less views over the years.
It’s rather impressive what Clark has been able to do as a rookie. At this rate, the WNBA could exponentially grow as a business. As of now, the WNBA has never made a profit in the 25 years of its existence.
Clark is certainly in the running for the WNBA Rookie of the Year award. Throughout most of this season, Angel Reese of the Chicago Sky has challenged Clark for the coveted award. However, after Reese’s injury, the Fever’s star rookie very well could win the award outright. Clark is averaging 19.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 8.4 assists per game.
Additionally, her efforts have helped the Fever turn their season around. Indiana has been one of the worst teams in the league for several years now but they’re firmly in the playoff race. The Fever are in sixth place with just three games remaining on the regular season.
Clark and her teammates take on the Aces again on Friday in what should be a fun contest. There is a chance they break another viewership record that night. After that, Indiana will face off against the Dallas Wings and Washington Mystics to end the season.
