There is only one game remaining in the 2024 WNBA regular season for Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever as they face the Washington Mystics in the nation’s capital on Thursday, September 19. But the game won’t matter because Indiana has already locked in their playoff spot and seed.
With the win over the Dallas Wings on Sunday, the Fever secured the sixth seed in the postseason. The Phoenix Mercury could still tie Indiana in the standings, but with the Fever sweeping the season series, they would win the tiebreaker.
On Monday, the Fever made an official announcement on X that their seeding has been officially set. They also revealed when their first playoff game will be.
“Locked in the No. 6 seed for the WNBA playoffs,” the Fever wrote on X. “Our first round series tips off Sunday. the matchup and full series schedule will be announced following the conclusion of the regular season on Thursday.”
Like the Fever, the last day of the regular season for every team will be on Thursday. Odds are the Connecticut Sun will finish the season as the three-seed and will play the Fever in the first round.
With the help of the WNBA All-Star trio of Clark, Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston, the Fever have been one of the hottest teams in the league since the return from the Olympic break. In 13 games during that timeframe, they have gone 9-4.
Indiana will enter the playoffs for the first time since 2016. If they can continue their play from the second half of the season, the Fever could potentially make a deep run.
