A witness told TMZ that Liam Payne had been acting strangely in the lobby before falling from the hotel balcony.

TMZ and a series of US newspapers confirmed that Liam Payne – a former member of the band One Direction – died after falling from a hotel balcony in Argentina on the evening of October 16 (local time).

On AP, Pablo Policicchio – a spokesman for the Buenos Aires City Security Department confirmed that Liam had fallen from the balcony. Police were dispatched to the hotel after an emergency call.

The hotel manager said he heard a loud noise behind the hotel. When police arrived, they found a man falling from the balcony of his room.

According to the information provided, Liam Payne fell from a height of 13-14m and “suffered serious injuries that led to immediate death”. Doctors confirmed the victim died at the scene.

“We tried to resuscitate him but there was nothing we could do,” Alberto Crescenti, head of the state’s emergency medical system, explained to Argentina’s Todo Noticias television channel.

Crescenti added that authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding Payne’s death and an autopsy is underway.

The cause of Liam Payne’s fall is still unclear.

Witnesses told TMZ that Liam had been acting erratically in the hotel lobby before his death. He reportedly smashed his laptop and was taken back to his room.

At the same time, a hotel employee called 911 to report a man acting aggressively. This matches what witnesses told TMZ about Liam’s actions in the hotel lobby.
Liam Payne’s last appearance in the media was at a music event for former One Direction member Niall Horan on October 2. He also celebrated his 31st birthday in England.

Close sources revealed that Liam Payne and his girlfriend Kate Cassidy arrived in Argentina on September 30. Then, the singer’s girlfriend left Argentina on October 14. Liam stayed and checked into the CasaSur Palermo hotel.

A few days before his death, the singer posted on social network Snapchat photos of his trip to Argentina, talking about horse riding and wanting to return home to see his dog.
