Shanon Biles, mother of the multi-award-winning gymnast, spoke about the addiction problems she faced when her children were children, which led to Simone being adopted by her grandfather. Since then they have been estranged and now she wants her daughter to “come back” with her.
The multi-award-winning gymnast, Simone Biles, is celebrating the medals she won in her participation in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Her mother shares her daughter’s happiness and hopes to be able to meet her soon to ask for forgiveness, after decades of having abandoned her due to her addiction problems.
Shanon Biles, 52, spoke about the problems that pushed her to leave her children and have them adopted by their father and aunt when they were little children, a situation for which she wants to apologize to her famous daughter.
“It was hard leaving my kids, but I had to do what I had to do. I couldn’t look after them. I was still using and (my father) didn’t want me in and out of their lives when I wasn’t feeling well,” she said in an interview with the Daily Mail.
Shanon regrets not being part of the 27-year-old athlete’s life, especially at important moments like her wedding with Jonathan Owens, a player for the Chicago Bears NFL team.
Although the woman has no contact with the gymnast, she revealed that she does have communication with another of her daughters, Adria (22 years old), who is inseparable from Simone.
“I would like to make peace with Simone personally. I’m just waiting for her and Adria (her younger sister) to get back together. I talk to Adria more than I talk to Simone. I would just ask her to forgive me. Can we move on? Don’t judge me for my past. Let’s move on,” Shanon shared with Daily Mail.
After losing control due to his alcoholism and drug addiction, Ronald, Shanon’s father, took care of Simone and Adria after adopting them and taking them to Texas, since the girls were in foster homes, at that time the gymnast was 6 years old.
“It was six years before I saw my children again. I respected my father and allowed them to transition, he thought it was the best for them. It was hard to leave them, but I had to do what I had to do. I couldn’t take care of them. I was still using. I was stubborn,” she confessed.
“I didn’t understand it at the time, but years later I understood why. I had to face myself first.”

Shanon’s two oldest children, Tevin, now 29, and Ashley, now 34, were left in the care of their great-aunt, Ronald’s sister.
Shanon Biles currently continues to live in a dangerous neighborhood of Franklinton, Columbus, Ohio, and is deeply in debt, reported Daily Mail.
“I would like to sit down and talk to you and answer any questions you may have. I don’t know what you’ve been told, but I want you to hear the truth,” was the message she sent to her daughter.
