Liam Payne’s Psychiatrist Dropped Him As A Patient Weeks Before His Death As She Believed He Needed ‘Higher Level Of Care’

Just weeks before his tragic passing, Liam Payne’s psychiatrist urged him to seek better care.

As Perezcious readers know, the 31-year-old singer was open about his struggles with addiction and his mental health in the past. Back in May 2023, he revealed he was sober again. However, we have since learned that in the months before his fatal fall from a hotel balcony on October 16, he had relapsed and was not doing well when it came to his mental health. In fact, his friend Rogelio “Roger” Nores, who has since been charged in Liam’s death along with four others, claimed the musician was hospitalized and entered rehab several times.

However, the pal said the treatment didn’t work, leading him to get into harder drugs like heroin. And that almost killed him multiple times throughout the year. Awful. During this time, his loved ones were understandably concerned and pushed him to seek proper help. And they weren’t the only ones. Even his psychiatrist felt he needed more assistance than she could offer him.

According to a letter filed with the court in Argentina and obtained by Page Six on Monday, the mental health professional said she dropped the One Direction alum as a patient in September “after careful consideration and assessment.” At the time, she determined Liam needed a “higher level of care” than she could provide but still recommended that he continue with a treatment plan like taking medications “only as prescribed” and avoiding “heavy drinking” while on them.

The psychiatrist also told him to do therapy every week, meet with his primary care doctor, and have “further testing” done.” But most importantly, she asked him to “regularly” speak to a therapist to help “process [his] depression and trauma,” stressing how “vital” it was for him to do so for his mental health. She then suggested some rehab facilities and doctors to provide care moving forward. Concluding the letter, the doctor said:

“Thank you for your understanding, and I wish you the very best in your continued journey toward mental health and well-being.”

Sadly for Liam, it didn’t get better and he died weeks later. Heartbreaking… Reactions, Perezcious readers? Drop them in the comments.
